Replace batteries in a TV remote

Restore a remote using the battery type and polarity marked inside its compartment.

Take it one step at a time

Repair steps

  1. Open the battery cover

    Turn the remote off if it has a power switch, then release the battery cover using its marked catch.

  2. Check the battery label

    Read the compartment label for battery size, number, and polarity. Use the exact type shown; do not mix old and new cells.

  3. Fit fresh batteries

    Remove the old cells and place fresh matching batteries with the plus and minus ends aligned to the markings.

  4. Test the remote

    Close the cover and test the remote. If there is crust, leakage, heat, or swelling, stop and follow the battery maker’s disposal advice instead of cleaning it yourself.
