Repair steps
Confirm the source
Confirm the water is dripping from the spout while the tap is closed, rather than from a hose, base, wall, or pipe joint. Find the tap’s brand and model and its user-service instructions; use this guide only if the maker describes a user-replaceable cartridge or washer.

Shut off and release pressure
Close the hot and cold isolation valves beneath the basin, then open the tap to release pressure. If a valve is missing, seized, or does not stop the water, stop and ask a plumber; do not dismantle a pressurized tap.

Open only the serviceable handle
Cover the drain so small parts cannot fall in. Follow the exact model instructions to remove the handle and retaining parts using a correctly fitting tool. Lift out a cartridge only if the manufacturer identifies it as user-serviceable; do not force or pry the tap body.

Fit the exact replacement
Match the replacement by the tap’s exact model or cartridge code, including shape and dimensions. Refit it in the orientation shown by the maker, reassemble, reopen the valves slowly, and check for leaks. If the drip remains or water appears at a joint, shut off the valves and contact a plumber.
