Repair steps
Check the cover split
Use this method only for a small cover split on an everyday paperback. Valuable, historic, or collectible books should go to a book conservator.

Clean and align the edges
Brush dust away and align the cover edges without pulling on the paper. Do not use glue on a damp or brittle cover.

Test the repair tape
Choose archival-quality book repair tape intended for paper. Test it on a hidden edge first; ordinary packing or duct tape can stain and damage paper.

Apply a narrow strip
Apply a narrow strip along the inside split, smoothing from the centre outward without stretching the cover. Let it settle flat before opening the book gently.
